Hot and mineral spring is called Arshan - sacred water. There are about seventy thermal, thirty cold mineral and hot carbon dioxide springs, as well as one hundred mineral radon springs are known in the territory of Baikal region, Buryatia.

Arshan (sacred water) is translated as a mineral (healing) spring in Buryat language. This word comes from the Sanskrit "rashiani" - nectar, the drink of the gods. Arshan mineral and hot springs

Located in Tunkinsky district of Buryatia. The most famous and visited mineral spring of Tunka valley is located near the village of the same name Arshan. In its composition, local springs in the resort of Arshan are close to the Narzan of the Caucasian mineral waters. Its water is recommended for chronic gastritis. Also, the mineral water of these places is used for digestive diseases, and the shower is useful for the prevention of heart and neurotic diseases.

Mineral baths of Zhemchug village

Mineral baths near the village of Zhemchug (Vyshka resort) - a balneotherapeutic health resort area located 5 kilometers from the village of Zhemchug on the banks of the Irkut River (50 km from Arshan). Thermal water was discovered in the 1950s, and the well was called Zhemchugskaya. Water comes from a depth of 728-814 meters; the flow rate is up to 1000 cubic meters of water per day with temperatures from 36.5 ° to 44 ° C. Well water is methane, with a low content of hydrogen sulfide and radon. This field is unique due to the combination of methane and carbon dioxide thermal waters in one place. Water is used to treat diseases of the osteoarticular system, peripheral nervous system, consequences of injuries of the musculoskeletal system, skin and gynecological diseases. Thermal springs operate year-round.

Mineral springs in Nilova Pustyn

They are located in Tunka valley near the Sukhoy (dry) Stream, so named because of the frequent drying out, and can decrease to a small rivulet (near the village of Khoyto-Gol). The star of this resort is a radon hot spring. Its thermal waters, which contain a lot of silicic acid and fluorine, are unsuitable for drinking but are unique for the treatment of skin and joint disorders.

Shumak mineral springs

These are legendary mineral springs, you will have to climb the Shumak pass - the path is quite complicated and requires some preparation and hiking experience. Shumak springs are 1558 meters above sea level. These are more than 100 unique mineral, thermal radon and carbon springs. They are very effective in their properties. The springs are numbered and named, for example, No. 5 “Lungs”, No. 69 “Heart”, No. 35 “Nerves”, No. 7 “Stomach”, No. 1 “Cancer”. From under one stone, you can immediately find several outlets of mineral waters with different temperatures, tastes and gas contents. Springs are located in three valleys, one is located on the right bank of the Shumak river, there are mainly radon baths, two other valleys on the left, there you will find most of the Shumak springs, kidney and heart baths, peloids (therapeutic mud). The Buryats of the Khongodor tribe living in the Tunka valley believe that Shumak has two guardian spirits - and both feminine. Therefore, it is customary to leave two gifts for them. Besides, water-healed and simply grateful people leave their offerings and gifts to those springs for bringing them back to health.

Zmeinaya Bay hot springs

Northern part of Baikal in Barguzinsky district of Buryatia. Zmeinaya (snake) Bay is located in Chivyrkuy Bay; it is one of the most famous bays of Chivyrkuy due to its hot springs. Zmeinaya has everything necessary for recreation, treatment, active and beach tourism. A local hot spring with a water temperature of up to 45 ° C is exclusively healing in the treatment of radiculitis and chondrosis. Springs spill both on land and underwater. And they are called so because sometimes there are snakes - non-poisonous snakes of the family of the genus. Where the main spring is, there are two wooden bathtubs with changing rooms. The water temperature in them is in the range of 28-34 ° C.  The waters of the Zmeinaya spring belong to the Allin type of mineral waters, in composition - hydro carbonate-sulfate-sodium, contain fluorine, are slightly mineralized. Water has the smell and taste of hydrogen sulfide. It is believed that the hot water of the Zmeinaya Springs cures disorders of the musculoskeletal system, radiculitis. There are lots of tourists at the source in summer. The ground around the source does not freeze in winter; the snow melts at once.

Zagza hot springs 

Situated half a way between Sukhaya and Enkheluk villages of Kabansky district. Zagza hot springs have long been used by locals to treat joints and skin diseases. Thermal springs in this place contain radon. There is a bathroom complex at the springs which operates year-round.

Khakusy hot springs

Some of the most powerful Baikal hot springs in terms of their healing effect is here, although it is the northern part of the lake in Severobaikalsky district of Buryatia. A sandy beach stretches for about 4 kilometers between cape Guba Khakusy and cape Khamankit, on the Evenki dialects means Cliff of arrows. They say that on the Khamankit cape the Evenks worshiped the guardian deity of Baikal - Diandu. Thermal water outlets are Khakusy hot springs nearby. The composition of the water is hydro carbonate-sulfate-sodium, its temperature is approximate + 35- +46 ° C. Springs help treat diseases and disorders of the circulatory system, nervous, genitourinary, endocrine musculoskeletal systems, and skin.

Hakusy thermal springs

Thermal spring Goudzhekit

Located 25 km from Severobaikalsk. The spring was discovered in 1989. Since time immemorial, people have used the therapeutic properties of these thermal waters. The spring is represented by the discharge of hydrothermal waters in the floodplain of the Goudzhekit river of a drilled well in granite rocks along a tectonic fault. The water is fluoride-bicarbonate with a temperature of 50 ° C. According to the mineralization and salt composition, the water of the Goudzhekit spring is closest to the Dilijan type (the famous resort in Armenia). Water analysis was done at a research institution (Tomsk) in 1995. Well, depth 170 meters. Composition: sodium - 102.38 mg/l, potassium - 4.90 mg/l, iron - 0.05 mg/l, strontium - 0.78 mg/l, molybdenum - 0.01 mg/l, boron - 0, 05 mg/l, iodine - 0.03 mg/l, oxidation - 0.48 mg/l. The balneological value of water is determined by temperature, alkalinity, and therapeutically active metasilicic acid.

Kotelnikovsky hot spring

It is located on the northwestern shore of Lake Baikal, 80 kilometers from the city of Severobaikalsk. The name of the source was given by the cape of the same name. Kotelnikovsky spring is the hottest on Lake Baikal. The water temperature of the spring is 81 degrees Celsius. The spring’s water is unsuitable for drinking and is indicated for external use in diseases of the circulatory system, nervous system, bones, muscles, digestive organs, genitourinary system, and skin diseases. You can get to the springs either in the summer on water or in winter on the ice of Lake Baikal. There are no roads in the vicinity of the Kotelnikovsky spring.

Dzelinda hot springs 

Located in the valley of the Upper Angara River 92 kilometers from Severobaikalsk. The total number of springs is more than ten. The water temperature in the springs is 44 degrees Celsius. The highway Severobaykalsk - Novy Uoiyan passes near the springs. Staraya (old) Dzelinda is a wooden blockhouse and a wooden canopy. Novaya (new) Dzelinda is 400 meters from the Staraya. Novaya Dzelinda is a well of the North Baikal branch of the Eastern Railway. There are outdoor pools, wooden houses, parking for cars. For vacationers, a cafe-bar, rental of sports equipment are available there. Dzelinda waters have a therapeutic effect and are indicated, among other things, in the treatment of chronic occupational poisoning with salts of heavy metals of mild to moderate severity.

Goryachinsk hot and mineral springs

On the eastern shore of Lake Baikal in Pribaikalsky district, Evenks from millennium to millennium came to treat their wounds and illnesses. The healing water of the springs is nitrogen-siliceous, slightly mineralized, contains sodium sulfate. It especially helps with diseases of the respiratory and digestive organs, nervous system, gynecological diseases. Officially, Goryachinsk springs were discovered back in 1753, not far from the Turka River (omul in Evenki) (Pribaikalsky district). That is why they got their original name - Turka wellspring. The oldest resort in Eastern Siberia was built here, which for a long time was called the Turka mineral waters. The modern name is Goryachinsk. The resort of the same name includes a sanatorium and a children's camp on Lake Kotokel.

Barguzin Valley hot and mineral springs

Some other really hot and effective thermal springs are located in the picturesque Barguzin valley in Barguzinsky and Kurumkansky districts. 150 mineral springs, most of them are sulfate-bicarbonate-sodium with a temperature of 50 ° C, 10 mineral lakes. In the north of Barguzin Valley, there are about one hundred thermal Umkhei springs; water outlets are located on the small island of Umkhei and both banks of the Barguzin River. By its therapeutic properties, it closes the top three sources of Buryatia - Shumak, and Goryachinsk. Mineral water containing the radon of the Garginsky hot spring emerges directly from the cracks of rocky ledges and a small cave on the slope of the valley of the Garga mountain river, 33 km from the village of Mogoyto. The water temperature is approximately 74-75 ° C. The famous Alla thermal springs are located in the mountain gorge along which the Alla River flows, at the foot of the Buuraltaar and Sakhiltaar mountains. The temperature reaches 77 ° C. The number of springs is about 46. Kuchiger springs are close to this area. Waters and large reserves of peloids of  Kuchiger have miraculous power, allowing to cure rheumatism and diseases of the cardiovascular system. At the springs you can see abandoned crutches and canes. The temperature varies from 21 to 75 ° C. The mineral water of the Buksekhen Silver Spring, which spouts from under the ledge of the rock, contains a high amount of silver cations, as well as magnesium, iron, and zinc. Baragkhan cold spring at the foot of the sacred Barkhan mountain helps a lot in treating the stomach and eye illnesses. The listed springs include such recreation facilities as Umkhei, Kuchiger, Buksygen, Alla, Garga, Baragkhan.

Barguzin hot springs

Atsagat mineral spring

In the Atsagat valley, 3 km from the Khotogor area, there is a place unique in its natural wealth and historical significance - Atsagat Arshan. This is a natural monument of historical significance. Back in the 19th century, Tibetan lamas came here to collect the most valuable medicinal herbs. Then, according to archival data, there were about 1750 species here. There are entire plantations of medicinal plants around this arshan. Arshan water is not only crystal clear but also larger than usual specific gravity. It was here, at the spring, where the first Tibetan hospital in Russia, Mamba Datsan, was built in Zaigraevsky district.

Yangazhinsky mineral spring

It is 41 km from Ulan-Ude in Ivolginsky district. There are 12 mineral springs of different chemical composition. Water springs are most powerful in the fall. There is a summer residential building, a bathroom building, a dining room. Area - 0.01 km2. Radon spring is located 5 km from the village. Springs are near the Ulan-Ude-Kyakhta highway. Mineral water emerges at the foot of the ridge at the bottom of a spring funnel with a diameter of about 30 meters with a total flow rate of 1.3 l/s. The composition of water is hydro carbonate calcium-magnesium with a salinity of 0.37 g / l, a temperature of 8.2 ° C and radioactivity of 56-73 emans.

Kizhinga mineral spring

For several centuries, people have been drinking water from Zhebkhekhen Arshan in Kizhinginsky district, which has become the natural pearl of Kizhinga Valley, blessed by Buddhist deities. Two houses with baths installed inside them were built here. The spring treats diseases of the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, and gynecological diseases. The place is also considered sacred. Near the village of Ust-Orot, there is a wandering Arshan. Drying in one place, it appears in another.

Pandito Khambo Lama Itigelov mineral spring

Consecrated by the lamas of Ivolginsky datsan, the small Buddhist complex of Ulzita Dovoo is dedicated to Pandito Khambo Lama Itigelov. He was born in this area (Ivolginsky district). Now here Arshan is beating from under the ground, a Buddhist stupa - suburgan has been erected. Arshan water has a high silver content. It is known that silver in itself has a healing effect and is used both in traditional and in modern medicine. This arshan is very helpful in treating hypertension, skin diseases, allergies, liver diseases, diabetes, eye diseases, hearing organs and many other diseases.

Engorboy thermal springs

In a valley closed between the two mountains of Hurmasta and Khamar Daban, there are thermal springs in Zakamensky district. Almost all the bright flora of Zakamna is collected there. Pure mountain air, the aroma of herbs and flowers on the slopes of the mountains and a lot of suns. The composition of 15 springs includes sodium sulfate, fluorine, silicic acid, radon, strontium, lithium, manganese, molybdenum, zinc, and other useful elements. The temperature is relatively low +28 to + 41 ° C. The water is used to treat diseases of the heart, teeth, liver, thyroid gland, head injuries, inflammation of the brain and spinal cord, gynecological diseases. It is customary to honor the guardian spirit, the mistress of the area Khuukhen Bumbei, which protects arshan and blesses people for recovery. It is a small part of the huge natural network of hot and mineral springs of Buryatia.
