There are 5 northern districts in Buryatia. All of them are the regions of Russian Far North.
The climate of the region is sharp continental, but the influence of Lake Baikal softens it, making winters milder and summers less hot.
Baikal freezes up only in mid-January, and ices out only in the second half of May. Ice traffic on Baikal is available from February to April.
Recreation is possible not only in summer. From February to mid-April when Baikal is still sleeping under a meter layer of ice, but frost is already weakened, is the best time for ski touring, ice fishing, and hot spring holidays.
