Kurumkansky District

Location

Kurumkansky district is located in the north of Buryatia. It was founded in 1925, its area is 12 450 square kilometers. The center of the district is Kurumkan village; the distance from the village to Ulan-Ude is 411 kilometers.

Culture

The name of the center of the Kurumkan area originates from the Evenk language and is translated as “stone field on a rock”. The original culture of the Barguzin Evenks is of great interest to tourists and visitors of the area. Evenks and Buryats the hospitable hosts of these places show rituals of worship and narrate beautiful legends.

Nature
Dzherginsky Nature Reserve

On the territory of the reserve, there are 29 species of fauna listed in the Red Data Book of Buryatia and 7 species included in the Red Book of Russia. The reserve preserves the pristine nature with rich flora and fauna, an abundance of mineral and thermal springs, various in composition, therapeutic muds, hunting and fishing grounds, boundless taiga, alpine mountains and meadows, and vast expanse of steppe.

Umkhey Resort

Located on an island in the middle of the Barguzin River at the junction of the Barguzinsky and Ikat ranges. Umkhey thermal waters come to the surface with 146 springs. Picturesque nature, fishing and rafting in combination with a healing arshan provide a wonderful rest.

Kuchegerskie Thermal Springs

The springs are located at the foot of the Barguzinsky Range, 7 kilometers from the village of Ulyunkhan. They are known since the 19th century.

Barkhan-Uula Mountain

According to Tibetan texts, there are 5 places where the main spirits live in Buryatia and Mongolia. The northernmost of them is the mountain of Barkhan-Uula. It is believed that a person climbing this mountain establishes a connection with the mysterious power of this place and becomes one with God. Only people who lead a righteous lifestyle can see a huge image of the Buddha on the rocks of this mountain. According to the mythology of Buryats, the Barkhan-Uula Mountain is the place where the hosts of the Barguzin Valley live, the heavenly masters that came down to earth from the sky. Just before the top of the mountain, on the plateau of the Tepteekhey opens a majestic and beautiful panorama of the most part of Barguzin Valley.

Kheer-Shoshogo

A natural monument, which is located 24 kilometers from the Baragkhan ulus in the area of ​​Shinegalzhin. It is a residual hill resembling an ancient Egyptian sphinx or dragon. Long ago, the Kheer-Shoshogo cliff served as a sacred place for the inhabitants of the Barguzin Valley, where prayer services were held with abundant treats to the gods. The petroglyph of the end of the Neolith – bronze era, made with red ocher, was found in Kurumkansky district on the eastern side of this rock, the only one for the time being. 

Uuden-Shuluun

It is a stone ridge of the residual hills it is 70 meters long and 15-20 meters wide. The attraction is located 25 kilometers from the ulus Baragkhan in the area of ​​Khara-Khoshuun.

Ravine of the Alla River

The valley of the river is a majestic panorama of a mountain ravine with a swift river at the bottom. Alla thermal springs are known since the 19th century. There are several waterfalls on the tributaries of the river; that is a great opportunity for mountaineering, mountain tourism, and fishing.

Lake Balan-Tamur

This lake is located on the territory of the Dzherginsky nature reserve. It is a natural opening of the Barguzin River, connected by a separate channel to Lake Churikto.
